We recently had the privilege of speaking with Jordan Nordase, a seasoned sustainable textile and design consultant with over 15 years of experience in the fashion industry. Currently serving as a Denim Consultant for ARMEDANGELS, Jordan shared his valuable insights on how fashion brands can adapt to new sustainability requirements while growing their businesses.

What strategy do you think fashion brands should adopt now to meet the new sustainability requirements while growing their business?

Jordan emphasized the importance of brands establishing a strong foundation for sustainability. “Brands need to identify areas to improve” he explains. The initial steps involve tracing and measuring their current practices. This baseline assessment enables brands to pinpoint where changes can be made and sets the stage for meaningful improvements.

Why should brands prioritize sustainability and transparency in their practices?

When asked why sustainability and transparency should be at the forefront of fashion practices, Jordan highlights the efficiency gained through these approaches. “Lower transportation costs due to a closer supply chain equal lower carbon emissions,” he notes. Additionally, using recyclable materials allows brands to reuse not only the products but also scraps from the production process. This mindset transforms sustainability from a regulatory burden into a valuable operational strategy.

In your opinion, what gaps currently exist in the market for third-party 'sustainability' solutions?

The terminology around sustainability and supply chain efficiency is often too sophisticated for most in the industry” he points out. Jordan identified a significant gap in the market for third-party sustainability solutions: a disconnect in language and understanding. There’s a need for individuals who can bridge the gap between understanding sustainable practices and practical product development.

What do you believe is the key factor in becoming the leading brand of the future?

What does it take for a brand to become a leader in the evolving fashion landscape? According to Jordan, it’s about delivering high-quality products paired with compelling branding and marketing stories. “It’s like a Michelin-star restaurant versus a low-reviewed one; it’s all about the quality of the inputs and how well you communicate that to your customers” he explains. Transparency in processes not only enhances brand credibility but also transforms customers into advocates.

How should brands select their best tech solution for compliance and sustainability?

In the age of compliance and sustainability, brands face the challenge of selecting appropriate tech solutions. Jordan advises brands to consider their goals: “Do they need a solution just to meet legislation, or do they want to leverage it as a marketing tool?” This clarity will guide them toward the right tools that align with their broader objectives.

What motivated you to support Renoon in expanding and promoting their solution?

Jordan’s motivation to support Renoon stems from his firsthand experience in mapping supply chains. Having navigated these complexities with a previous brand, he recognizes the impact transparency can have on customer engagement and operational efficiency. “I saw how much it impacted our customers, and it made me aware of issues in my supply chain” he recalls. Jordan believes that Renoon's functionality and design surpass other transparency solutions, making it a game-changer for brands looking to streamline their processes.

Why do you believe in Renoon's capability to help fashion brands in transitioning to new standards of the industry?

Jordan firmly believes in Renoon’s potential to help fashion brands transition to new industry standards. “Brands need help translating the chaos of the rapidly evolving landscape of sustainability and fashion” he states. By supporting both brands and consumers, Renoon is positioned as a vital player in shaping the future of sustainable fashion.

Jordan Nordase’s insights illuminate the path forward for fashion brands striving for sustainability. By focusing on transparency, quality, and strategic use of technology, brands can not only meet new sustainability requirements but also thrive in a competitive market. As the industry evolves, Jordan’s expertise and vision provide a roadmap for brands ready to embrace a more sustainable future.
