It is important to Underprotection that their wool is produced under ethical conditions. They use chlorine-free merino wool, which is produced under conditions that are 100% free of mulesing. This means that the wool comes from happy and healthy sheep, which have been regularly washed and trimmed so that painful mulesing interventions can be avoided

At Underprotection, they use postcards and cardboard packaging that are produced with care. Their postbags are made from recycled plastic, which is GRS-certified (Global Recycle Standard). All their cardboard boxes and gift boxes as well as their wrapping paper are made from recycled materials. Their gift boxes and gift bags are FSC-certified, which ensures that the cardboard and paper used is procured in an environmentally friendly, socially responsible and financially sustainable way

Underprotection believes that proper working conditions and fair pay are basic human rights. That is why they only work with factories that carry different certifications that ensure social sustainability in production, supporting fair wages and proper working conditions. The certifications that their suppliers have are WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production), Sedex and BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative), all of which help to guarantee proper working conditions and a fair salary. In addition, they also all have Oeko-Tex, which i.a. helps to ensure that no harmful chemicals are used at the factory or in the materials that are sewn on site

100% Recycled polyester

Recycled polyester also known as rPET, is created by melting down existing plastic and re-spinning it into new polyester fiber. This fabric can be made from either post-industrial or post-consumer materials. For example, 5 water bottles yield enough fiber for one extra large T-shirt. This material repurposes existing plastic that would otherwise end up in the landfill or the ocean. 

Recycled polyester’s sustainable production requires low resources and energy to produce, and contributes low CO2 emissions. It also reduces the need to extract crude oil and natural gas from the ground to make more plastic, which is much better for the Earth.
