Mara Hoffman started using glassline bags by Vela in Februrary 2020, which are paper, fully recyclable, and are air water and grease resistant. In addition, since 2019 they have used 100% recycled paper mailers for small orders and for larger orders they use cardboard boxes, also containing recycled material

Mara Hoffman's red Percy bodysuit is knitted using Lyocell REFIBRA, a conscious fibre partially derived from upcycled cotton scraps from pre-consumer waste and responsibly sourced wood. It's made in Morocco from ribbed jersey with a square neckline and a discreet press-stud fastening.

TENCEL™ branded lyocell and modal fibers are created from sustainably sourced wood, using pulp as raw material. The fabric is produced using an environmentally responsible closed loop production process, meaning its solvent has a recovery rate of more than 99%, so no chemical or organic waste is produced in the process. 

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are naturally soft to the touch and offer long lasting comfort, even for people with sensitive skin. It is described to be twice as soft as cotton. It’s also luxurious in its shine and flow. Because the material is very flexible, the fibers stay in excellent quality, even after repeated washing. The fabric is also known for its exceptional capacity of thermal regulation, keeping you warm in the old and cool in the summer. Along with that, the material is moisture absorbent, perfect for working out and absorbing sweat.

TENCEL™ fibers are certified as compostable and biodegradable, and thus can fully revert back to nature.

Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality and environmental value. 

Upcycling artists are inspired by the textile waste they see, which is almost an unlimited resource at this point. They create with the intention to use what is already here. This process is important in the circular fashion movement, because it makes use of discarded textiles, giving these materials second lives. 

Because discarded textiles are not typically sheets of fabric, but rather articles of discarded clothing, a lot of creativity is required to transform materials into new fashionable pieces. This challenge is exciting for upcycling artists, as they are driven and inspired to create with what is in front of them and often don’t have much to lose in the process, since discarded materials are readily available and cheap. Because of this, upcycled clothing is often unique as each piece has been thoughtfully crafted into a new garment.

This product is made by creatively upcycling materials that would otherwise go to waste. This makes better use of resources like deadstock fabrics: leftovers from big production that are saved by re-using them.
