World Ocean Day: 5 responsible swimwear brands to opt for
Today, June 8th, is Ocean Day and to honour this important holiday, Gaia from @ssustainably shared with us her favorite brands and tips on how you can shop for this summer while being sustainable! Keep reading and check out those 5 swimwear brands that care for the oceans on Renoon’s app!
Oceans are an important carbon sink and a habitat for so many species. Yet, like most natural environments, they are threatened by human activity causing water pollution and ocean acidification. In fact less than 3% of oceans around the world are appropriately protected, and that is why things have to change! This is Gaia from @ssustainably_, sharing some ideas on how to shop sustainably in light of Ocean Day.
Shopping with care
Even though there is a lot to improve, we can start by purchasing clothes with these issues in mind. I believe that every step counts and through your purchases, you can support companies that are developing innovative solutions such as ECONYL® who is turning fishing nets, fabric scraps and industrial plastic into a nylon yarn, reducing waste and restoring ecosystems.
Some of us are looking forward to being able to travel again (finally!) and as summer is approaching, seaside destinations are the most popular. Here at Renoon we don’t want you to buy things you don’t need and it’s always important to re-wear what you already own, but if you’re searching for swimwear, read on to learn about 5 ocean-friendly options!
Ocealah

With its simple but stylish pieces, this brand offers a range of bikinis and one-piece made ethically in Barcelona. All their items are made from ECONYL so you can truly feel good in these contemporary silhouettes.
PIWARI

This brand also uses ECONYL and LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™ to create their made-to-order swimsuits and bikinis. With innovative designs and slow production times, they’re embodying the philosophy of slow fashion. Perfect for a holiday getaway or a tanning session in your backyard – comfort ensured!
Ozero

Ozero creates sophisticated swimwear that doesn’t cost the earth. With a blend of ECONYL and LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™ that allows for durability, UV protection and comfortable fit. Made in Bali, the brand’s name means lake in Russian and each piece is named after lakes around the world.
Lemlem

Lemlem’s bikinis are made in Africa with the goal of elevating and encouraging artisanship. With cute, fun patterns made of recycled polyamide, these pieces are guaranteed to make you stand out.
Daughters of summer

This brand offers cool, feminine swimwear in colorful patterns. Mostly recycled polyester and ECONYL are used to make these pieces, produced in NY, US. These beautiful, well-made pieces will definitely get you a lot of compliments!
Caring for the garments

As you might be aware, the impacts of swimwear and activewear don’t stop at the production stage, when washed they release microfibres so, if you can, use a Guppybag before putting your new bikinis in the washing machine! Read more about how to care for your clothes here!
